New collection of poems envisaged

You have heard it here before, time constraints blocking poetic productivity. Nothing much has changed, it pains me to say. Yes, for to be sure, life is still busy and at times hectic and few are the hours where I can dedicate myself to my poetry endeavours. But, all is not lost as over the last year or so I have been putting together a slim volume of poems that deal with my leaving Bristol and settling down in my native Sydney. I think it's going to be a nice little book of poems. I have to see whether the LULU printer in Melbourne has sorted out its teething probs and then we're good to go, as the French say.

Gold, gold, gold

I am sure that for most of us it is true that we have, at some stage, dreamt of what it would be like to be rich, really rich. One of the images that are associated with real luxury and wealth remains the alluring commodity that is gold. With Monex you can invest in gold bars, gold bullion, coins, silver, platinum and palladium and many other products as well. Of course, as everyone knows, investing in gold is usually one of the safest options that will keep their worth in the future.

Actually, buying gold has been recognized for ages and ages as one of the most trusted ways to preserve one’s wealth and assets. And of course gold bullion is a unique investment. From time immemorial to more recent times, humankind has had an enduring affinity with gold bullion that has truly stood the test of time. In all ages and across the world, people have been fascinated with the beauty and the magic of gold. Nowadays the beauty of a gold bar must lie in its proven capacity to diversify investments, to protect wealth and also to preserve one’s purchasing power.
Gold is perennially a great investment and one on which you can rely now and in the future.

Fishy

Recently I saw a picture in a newspaper of a huge shark that they dragged up off the coast near Brisbane. This shark was of course a white pointer but the remarkable thing was that it had a huge bite taken out of its body by what must have been a truly enormous shark. The shark that had had a huge chunk bitten out of its rump was after all enormous itself. So, they warned people to stay clear of the waters around that area as a really scary white pointer must be lurking around. Forget about Spielberg's Jaws; down here it's real!

Windy

Not me, the weather. It's like the fire season has already started with incessant warm winds blowing in from the country. Still, at least the dust storms are behind us now, fingers crossed. I can't wait to go swimming once the hot weather is with us again. Splish splash, I'll be taking a bath. Yeah baby!

Silver

I like money, there, I have said it. I am not ashamed to admit that I value financial security and furthermore that I would always prefer not to have to be poor. In order to stave off empty coffers I would try to make sure that my finances and economies are in order at all times. You have to be on the ball these days. And just because the world’s economy has been in recession does not mean that you have to suffer too badly either. There is always money to be made for those who are willing to do the leg work and choose wisely when it comes to investing in commodities or other investment options. There is a lot out there, after all.

I have been thinking about investing in the wonderful commodity that is silver and have also been looking around for more information regarding the best way to go about this tentative plan of mine. And, I am happy to announce that I found a great resource of information on just his particular investment opportunity.

For instance, did you realise that actually silver increased in 2009? Well, that is just one of the fascinating facts that I recently read in a superb article on silver investments. The article really helped me to find out a lot more about the ins and outs of trading on the the commodity market

.

The article appeared on SilverSeek.com and was a real eye opener, I can tell you. After all, it is not always easy for a lay person to find out what the best investment strategies really are. I think you would agree with that assertion, wouldn’t you?

The article in question deals in depth with recent performance of silver prices and expected future developments. The details revealed really helped me make up my mind about the possibility of going ahead and investing in silver. It is a well written and insightful article that will enlighten everyone with a genuine interest in the subject matter, that I can guarantee without reserve.

Have a look at this fascinating article and the SilveSeek.com website for more information. You will not regret checking it out.

Rain

Just got home from worked, drenched because of the torrential rain that bucketed from the lead grey skies. I love summer rain here in Sydney because it is never cold and it makes for a great experience to feel the hard rain, the sound of the gushing rivulets in the street gutters and the girls scrambling for their brollies in doubtless vain attempts to save their hairdos. It is simply great, I tells ya!

Medical help

I have a feeling that you will agree that we are all aware of the fact that there are many, many medicines for all types of ailments and conditions. At some stage in our lives we will have had to use some type of medication or other, so much is certain. It is almost a given. Yet these days there is also a thing called medical marijuana. In some areas it is already available and people have begun using the compound for medical ailments.

Needless to say, there is also a great deal of misinformation about medical marijuana. It is not easy to find out the accurate information regarding this controversial and sensitive issue. Have a look at Medical Marijuana Colorado for the very best information about medical marijuana. Check it out by all means.

Life

Feeling pretty darn good, dear readers. Or Possums, as Dame Edna might say. Had a nice lie-in today. An Australian friend of mine said that the phrase 'lie-in' was 'so Pommie.' She herself invariablyused the word 'sleep-in', which to me seems rather Septic, if you know what I mean.

Inspiration blazing

Since I have a new grand love in my life I have started writing highly Romantic poems again. She is my muse and she inspires me to write in praise of her charms. That is the type of poem I ideally like to write, it has to be said. Poetry is passion, after all is said and done. It couldn't be any other way, really. That is my opinion and I'll stick by it. So, there. I have spoken.

Renewed

Just met a few new people in my life and lo and behold, they are interested in my poetry. Great! Thing is I am not very good at selling myself or pushing myself onto centre stage. Nevermind. I've made my collected poems available to them and they seem very appreciative. Perhaps the visual or spiritual nature of these poems appeals to them. It's nice to be noticed, though.

Coffee and work

Coffee and work; work and coffee. For me the two go hand in hand. Couldn't face the working day without the aid of some strong caffeine first thing in the morning. Call me old fashioned. Life is hard enough without that particular liquid crutch. And so say all of us, let's hear it for the old brown bean. 'Tis a beauty, me hearties. But no Starbucks, obviously. That's for Yanks who don't know any better.

Poor poetry

Poetry is taking a back seat at the moment, I'm afraid. I am making some headway as a proofreader and editor and am quite enjoying finally making a few pennies with my writing, I have to admit. It's good fun to be rewarded for my efforts although I can see the Muse pouting as we speak. Never fear, I have not forgotten thee, my eternal love.

Blue hills

This standard picture reminds me of the Blue Mountains. It's that hazy blue glow over the trees that does it , I suppose.

Bats

My girlfriend lives in a suburb that can easily be described as very leafy. Long lanes of greenery bounding onto the road, nice properties, you know the drill. There is also a large park surrounded by what we Aussies call bush land. Here, on the steep pathway leading up to her apartment block, you may come across all manner of wildlife: brown snakes (not to be messed with), possums, rats, owls. The other day I walking there at night and suddenly looked overhead at this huge bat that skimmed over my bonce. It was quite a sight. I do like a bit of Gothic imagery, me.

28 July 2009

Dreams

My darling girlfriend had a nightmare the other day which unsettled her. I know the feeling. Some dreams can be uplifting and soothing while others can be really unnerving. I used to dream a lot about my brother. He would invariably be put in harm's way with me paralysed and unable to help him. It was a terrible feeling and one that always left me feeling raw and sore mentally and emotionally. I hated it. A female horse after sundown: nightmare.

Coin collecting

There are a lot of opportunities to invest out there. I think that goes without saying. But I think we can also state that some investments are more secure than some others, all things considered. That’s just my opinion, let’s face it. Moreover, some investment options are also more fun to be engaged in would you believe it.

Take for example investing in a rare coin collection. Collecting rare coins is fun and a great sound investment. But, I hear you say: where to start? Where to begin this exciting endeavour? This is where Monaco Rare Coin comes in to help you. They can help you build up an outstanding rare coin portfolio. Check them out and you will see what I mean.

Amigos

Finding dealing with my friends a bit taxing at the moment. I had a bit of a run in with one of my closest friends and it has hurt my feelings in the process. Zephyr Airsoft

Paintballing can be great fun. Even people who don’t think they will enjoy something like this will very often end up simply loving the action and the adventure of a good paintball session. It can bring people together in a team setting and this is one of the reasons why paintballing is often used in corporate team building programmes and courses. You really do get to know your self as well as your team members or friends or colleagues, that goes without saying. It really is quite good fun, believe me.

But of course you will need the right sort of equipment such as an airsoft aeg or any other gear that is on offer from Zephyr Airsoft. Check out their website to marvel at the huge range of airsoft weapons and equipment that they can provide.

Italian meal fiasco

I took my good lady for a meal at a local Italian restaurant and soon came to regret it. The place was packed full with tables, noisy and just cramped. The service was overbearing and too familiar and for some bizarre reason the chef kept wandering in-between the tables doing the gregarious 'are you enjoying yourselves' bit to death. The food was not great, a bit rubbish to be honest. We ordered Tortelloni and it was hard work all the way. Too stodgy with some sloppy crab meat filling that couldn't lift the dish. We made off as soon as we could, vowing never to set foot in this place again. Shame..

Publishing a poet

I published a fine poem by a fine poet today and enjoyed doing so. That's what makes it a great thing to be a poetry magazine editor. Sometimes you get a great submission and it is a privilege to be able to showcase a poet's work in your pages. I've always liked that aspect of being a magazine editor. You sometimes get the chance to make someone's day by giving them a bit of a platform to show their skills and poetic prowess.

Discount jewelry

A great night out on the tiles is a most enjoyable thing to do. Stepping out with your good lady and going somewhere a bit fancy for a bite to eat or perhaps even a dance is something that will put you in her good books right away. And of course dressing up is part of the whole experience, I think you will agree. For we men it is fairly simple and straight forward, just slip on a nice suit, shine your shoes and comb your hair and Bob’s your uncle.

But woman like to make more of an effort, bless them, and are we not appreciative of that? Now, there is a way of purchasing discount jewelry that will look fabulous but that is also affordable. Just check out Holsted Jewelers for a great range in jewelry.

Funny none the less

And as a stand up I hate his delivery. It is so inarticulate and that faltering way of supposedly drifting off in different directions is just annoying. But at one point he was funny, granted, when he talked about something and said “because I am black”. It was just an aside but he looked at Paul, the muso, and said: “Hasn’t it just gone all quiet? Did you notice that?”

Schmaltz and Cosby

The other day I was watching David Letterman and much to my chagrin he had Bill Cosby on as the main guest. I never liked that sitcom he did. It was just far too cute and self-conscious for my taste. The adorable factor was far too high for me. I just couldn’t cope with the levels of schmaltz.

Gold bullion options

Who does not love gold? Go on, be honest. It is just incredible how luxurious it makes you feel just thinking about it. And of course it just happens to be one of the very best investment options out there and always has been as well come to think of it. Investing in gold is a secure way to look after your future as it is an incredible secure and safe kind of commodity.

Perhaps you should check out Monaco rare coin if you are interested in coins or bullion. You will see what a great investment option gold really is.

Media IV

Obsession seems to be a part of it as well. Almost every day, so many years later, there are articles in the tabloids about Ladi Di and suspected plots on her life, interspersed with the ramblings of Mohamed Al Fayed. They can’t let it go because they know people will still keep reading it.

Media III

For a nation that prides itself on its stiff upper lip and level headedness they don’t half have a press that is able to whip up a mock frenzy or expand a hype into near celestial regions. We all remember the Lady Di thing but then what actually happened was truly tragic and the subsequent outpouring of grief genuine.

Weddings

Almost all of us have been there at least once and we seem to think that we know all about tying the knot. Is there anything more exciting or romantic than that special occasion? I hardly think so. I know that I for one really enjoyed my wedding day and that is a man saying this, no really. The day was a splendid one and I felt really in love and over the moon at the thought of spending my married life with just this very girl who meant everything to me and then some.

If you happen to be looking for wedding gifts or bridesmaid gifts then you should definitely look at the The Knot Wedding Shop where you will find everything you need and more besides. Don’t delay just have a look right now.

It didn’t surprise me. I lived in the United Kingdom for eight years and was often baffled by the power of the press. It is truly scary how they build someone up to incredible heights only to knock them down in the most distasteful way possible. They seem to be a law unto themselves with unlimited power to interfere in people’s lives.

Media

There has been a media storm about the British Idols contestant Susan Boyle recently. In the end she missed out on first place and had a break down. Apparently, she is on the mend again so let’s hope she’ll be alright. She went from the media’s darling to being vilified by the press in the flash of an eye.

Getting an online degree

If you ask your self what may have well been the most formative time period of your life then I would imagine many people would answer that their time at college or university as a student was crucial. With the benefit of hindsight most people may well concede that their time as a student was something rather special. After all, as a student you are confronted with new ideas and experiences, you get to meet a lot of new people and in many ways the world just opens up.

These days, there are so many courses to choose from and the choice of offer is just amazing. Of course, perhaps you will want to get your degree online at Capella University which offers a wide range of online degree courses.

Ships in the day

Living on a peninsula in Sydney Harbour I sometimes enjoy listening to the ships' horns late at night. It's such a strangely soothing yet haunting sound, evocative of so much. Today, as I walked from the main street towards the waterfront I saw a ship's mast and funnel move just behind a row of houses. It was as though the vessel was moving gently along a street's pavement as I could only make out the higher bits of the ship. Somehow it seemed perfectly normal.

Crystal singing bowls

Sometimes life gets a bit hectic and that is when I like to retreat to the sanctuary of my home and find some time to dedicate to the inner self. I then like to engage in some meditation and withdraw from the maddening world outside. I find inspiration in yoga and zen Buddhism and try to reach a more blissful state of mind by concentrating on a mantra or meaningful word.

I came across this great site where you can buy authentic crystal singing bowls, Nepali prayer flags and also Gongs. Check it out as this is a great site. You will find lots of great stuff right here.

Spider

I've never been a big fan of spiders. There, I've said it. I just think there is something creepy and darkly Gothic about them. The way they look, the way they move and let's not forget how gross the way in which they consume their prey is, really. Isn't nature wonderful? Last night, I was lying in bed, watching the telly when all of a sudden a spider dropped down from the ceiling on its string a bit like Tom Cruise in that scene in Mission Impossible, and landed on my bed covers, bold as brass. I admired its cheek but only after I'd swept it off the bed with a flick of the wrist. Creep.

The perfect vacation

What is better than going somewhere wonderfully romantic for your vacation? Usually, you will want any vacation to be a wonderful one but more importantly now you can stay in one of these adults only hotels which makes your vacation of a lifetime just right, I think you will agree. There are many destinations to choose from when considering where to go for your vacation.

You should certainly check out the white sand beaches of Riviera Maya. You see, the word Karisma comes from the Greek and means ‘divine favour’. Karisma hotels is a group of divinely favoured properties located on stunning white sand beaches on the Mexican Riviera Maya. This is the ultimate destination for a gloriously romantic vacation. This is a silver style vacation option that is certain to impress. Especially, since there is a wonderful emphasis on gourmet-style food choices.

More sports

Why is the assumption so tenacious that we all have to be obsessed with sports and be interested in what occupies sports stars’ minds. Apparently, everything about ‘sports heroes’ is of interest to the general public. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘What is your favourite little superstitious ritual before you leave the dressing room?’ Fascinating.

Sports

Sports can be hard work. Yesterday, I was in the pub, quietly drinking a few schooners and, of course, everywhere on the wall were screens showing rugby. Sometimes I will be in the mood to follow a match but yesterday was not such an occasion. I just thought: Give it a rest, call it a draw and go home to your WAGs. But perhaps that’s just me. Perhaps you’re not a real man unless you enjoy wrestling other men to the ground and pulling at each other’s shorts. Seems a bit latent to me, though.

Michigan beauty schools

It is clear that education is an important issue these days and for young people looking for a college or other type of training it is not always easy to find the right path that is suitable for their situation. There are all sorts of people and not every kind of training or schooling will be the right choice. Of course, there is a multitude of schools and colleges to choose from and that in itself, that huge choice of options, is not always a great help.

I want to let you know about these michigan cosmetology schools that I have heard about. They are Regency beauty schools and they just happen to be the fastest growing beauty school in the land. They have expanded from a mere two Minnesota schools in 2002 to nearly thirty campuses in a number of states and it looks like they will keep growing in the future, I have no doubt.

So much to do and so little time? Not quite. The spirit is willing et cetera? More likely..

Shows

There are too many new American would be hit shows on telly, there, I've said it. Endless sitcoms with canned laughter and lazy gags, courtroom dramas, cop shows, CSI type shows where the talk about 'vics', how cool is that? Luckily, there is also SBS and ABC2 with some superb British comedy. The Mighty Boosh, Lead Balloon, Spaced; there is still a lot to enjoy, so not to worry. You've got to have a laugh.

That's what they say. And, I do a lot of writing on any given day. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. There is a more involved project running as well and I am making some progress there but it is slow progress. Ah well...Londinium wasn't built in a day..

Monex

Most people have, at some stage or other, dreamed of what it would be like to be truly wealthy. One of the images that denote real luxury and riches has to be the sight of those amazing gold items that are so impressive to just look at such as jewellery and art objects. At Monex you can invest in gold bars, gold bullion, coins, silver, platinum and palladium and other products. And, as everyone well knows, investing in gold is generally one of the safest options that will keep their worth in years to come. You can’t really go wrong with gold, that is for sure.

On the whole, it is always a good idea to keep yourself informed of the current gold price. Purchasing gold has been recognized for ages and ages as one of the most reliable ways to preserve one’s wealth and buying power. And of course gold bullion is a unique investment. From time immemorial to more recent times, humankind has had an enduring affinity with gold bullion that has truly stood the test of time. In all ages and across the world, people have been fascinated with the beauty and the magic of gold.

Twitting and such

Is Twitter worth it? I am sort of getting my head around using Twitter and I suppose it could be fun way to keep track of your mates. But, as with most social networking sites it seems such a time waster in many ways. When I look at some of the people I am following on Twitter it seems as though they don’t do anything without reporting it on the site. Not sure, really.

Splendid brekkie

I just went for a gorgeous breakfast. Of course I also had a long black coffee, what do you think? The big thing around here is a bacon and egg roll. That is if you want a reasonably cheap breakfast. You can get them everywhere and most cafes do a really good one. When I came home I saw some tree workers dispose of the sickly banana tree in front of my apartment building. I’m sorry to see it go.

Tying the knot

Ah..tying the knot. Is there anything more evocative or romantic that those few words? I don’t think so. I know that I for one really enjoyed my wedding day and that is a man saying this. The day was a wonderful one and I felt really really in love and over the moon at the prospect of spending my married life with just this very girl who meant the world to me.

If you happen to be looking for wedding gifts or bridesmaid gifts then you should definitely check out The Knot Wedding Shop where you will find everything you need and more besides.

British telly

I am pleased to find there is a lot of British television on here in Australia. So, I don't have to miss out on all of those great comedy programmes I loved watching when I lived in England. And some things that passed me by while I was there I can now catch up with and that's fun as well. I just wish I could use the BBC's iPlayer here but that's a big no-no..

On the beach

There are some great beaches around Sydney, both on the ocean shores and within the harbour area. And part of me would like to find a suitable swimming beach. The thing is, however, that shark attacks are quite frequent at the moment, even in the harbour. And I like swimming and hanging out at the beach but I don't want to end up a fish supper for a fish. Back to the pool..

Indonesia

There is a plan germinating to visit Indonesia together with a friend. This friend is a highly experiences traveller who will know her way around the many islands of that mysterious archipelago. Personally, I would love to see if we could find some quieter parts of Bali as I feel an attraction to that little gem. We'll see. It won't happen for a while as I am just in the process of establishing my new working situation. But that doesn't stop me from looking forward to it..

This week I'm embarking on a new career path. I will be training as a Court Monitor. The work seems fascinating and I am certain that I will enjoy it once I get going. So, I will be joining the working stiffs commuting into the city centre. I can't wait to get underway. Here's to the future..

Russian history

The world is a fascinating place with a bewildering array of differing places and peoples. The sheer diversity is overwhelming and makes for an endlessly interesting field of study and research. Personally, I love nothing better than immersing myself in another culture when travelling or simply reading about foreign places and exotic peoples.

I have travelled extensively in western Europe and to some degree around Australia, my current base. So far, I have not been to Eastern Europe or farther into the Ukraine or Russia. Certainly, these are countries with a turbulent history and I would love to see some of the sights around places like St. Petersburg or Moscow or Kiev.

I came across an interesting site about the so-called holodomor, which made me think about the sometimes tense relationship between Russia and the Ukraine. I could never judge the level of this being a mere outsider and bystander but the site I referred to above makes be want to delve deeper into the history of the Soviet Union and modern day Russia.

The sheer size of those countries cannot fail to impress. I used to live in a tiny country, namely the Netherlands so at that time almost any other country seemed to be so much bigger. But a country like Russia with its millions of inhabitants is something else altogether, I tend to think.

New computer, more writing

I bought myself a cheap second-hand desktop the other day and am in the process of installing several applications and so on. As you do. It's nice to be able to use a proper keyboard again, I have to say. Somehow a laptop seems a bit too finicky at times.

I've been writing new poems, articles and even some journalistic pieces. I'm really enjoying this new period of inspiration. After all: 'A writer writes..'

Work and barcode scanners

We all have to pay the bills and so most of us will have to work for a living. That is just the way it is, I’m afraid. And, in my time, I have had a series of different jobs and carried out widely varying duties in the process.

The funny thing is that one working implement was part and parcel of my daily working life in several jobs. As a supermarket check-out operator I saw the introduction of barcode scanners that revolutionised the world of retail and the manner in which retail products were dealt with in the shop and in the store.
It took some getting used to but most of the staff found that the barcode scanners were a vast improvement to the work and made things a lot easier.

In another job I enjoyed I worked with barcode scanners in a similar way. While I worked in public and academic libraries I used a barcode scanner on a daily basis to record the issue and return of library materials, books, CDs, and journals. All items were recorded in the system by scanning the item’s barcode.

It’s hard to underestimate how much of an innovation barcode scanners have been in all sorts of sectors and industries. You can’t imagine doing without barcode scanners, really.

Gorgeous day

I'm really enjoying my first Aussie summer. Almost every day is fine and sunny, nice and warm. Luckily, there's a harbour pool just down the road from where I live. I like to go there when the day is hottest and then just plunge down and cool off. It's wonderful to float around the cool water while the sun is high.

Let's hear it for the summer. Ripper!

Fireworks

Seems like ages ago already, New Year's Eve, but I just wanted to post this image of the fireworks here in Sydney. It was fabulous to see the spectacle for myself this time, just standing in the streets outside a pub at midnight, beer in hand, and feeling very happy and relaxed. It was a wonderful moment of belonging.

Product review site

Shopping can be a bit of a chore at the best of times. And, of course, being a man myself, my natural dislike of spending time in shopping malls and the like will always come to the fore. But, these days of course, it has become much more easy to shop online and make use of the convenience of the internet when it comes to purchasing those essential and not so essential items.

But when you shop online or inform your self online as to where to go to make those purchases you will need some sort of guide to help you along. A good product review site can really make a big difference and be a great help. I have found a sit online with reviews of all the best PLR Membership Sites and the very best in product reviews.

Check them out to see what I mean. On the left hand column of the site you will see a long list of categories to choose from and you will find that this list is very comprehensive. I tried ‘Cat resources’ and found lots of helpful reviews about just about anything you could think of that was connected to cats. This is a helpful site so do have a look at it.

Couleur locale

Just a picture of a nearby row of terraces here in Sydney. It's a nice part of town where I live with plenty of amenities and funny little streets and old houses. It's got real character and I am very pleased I ended up here. It's a great place to live.
