Tying the knot

Ah..tying the knot. Is there anything more evocative or romantic that those few words? I don’t think so. I know that I for one really enjoyed my wedding day and that is a man saying this. The day was a wonderful one and I felt really really in love and over the moon at the prospect of spending my married life with just this very girl who meant the world to me.

If you happen to be looking for wedding gifts or bridesmaid gifts then you should definitely check out The Knot Wedding Shop where you will find everything you need and more besides.

British telly

I am pleased to find there is a lot of British television on here in Australia. So, I don't have to miss out on all of those great comedy programmes I loved watching when I lived in England. And some things that passed me by while I was there I can now catch up with and that's fun as well. I just wish I could use the BBC's iPlayer here but that's a big no-no..

On the beach

There are some great beaches around Sydney, both on the ocean shores and within the harbour area. And part of me would like to find a suitable swimming beach. The thing is, however, that shark attacks are quite frequent at the moment, even in the harbour. And I like swimming and hanging out at the beach but I don't want to end up a fish supper for a fish. Back to the pool..

Indonesia

There is a plan germinating to visit Indonesia together with a friend. This friend is a highly experiences traveller who will know her way around the many islands of that mysterious archipelago. Personally, I would love to see if we could find some quieter parts of Bali as I feel an attraction to that little gem. We'll see. It won't happen for a while as I am just in the process of establishing my new working situation. But that doesn't stop me from looking forward to it..

This week I'm embarking on a new career path. I will be training as a Court Monitor. The work seems fascinating and I am certain that I will enjoy it once I get going. So, I will be joining the working stiffs commuting into the city centre. I can't wait to get underway. Here's to the future..

Russian history

The world is a fascinating place with a bewildering array of differing places and peoples. The sheer diversity is overwhelming and makes for an endlessly interesting field of study and research. Personally, I love nothing better than immersing myself in another culture when travelling or simply reading about foreign places and exotic peoples.

I have travelled extensively in western Europe and to some degree around Australia, my current base. So far, I have not been to Eastern Europe or farther into the Ukraine or Russia. Certainly, these are countries with a turbulent history and I would love to see some of the sights around places like St. Petersburg or Moscow or Kiev.

I came across an interesting site about the so-called holodomor, which made me think about the sometimes tense relationship between Russia and the Ukraine. I could never judge the level of this being a mere outsider and bystander but the site I referred to above makes be want to delve deeper into the history of the Soviet Union and modern day Russia.

The sheer size of those countries cannot fail to impress. I used to live in a tiny country, namely the Netherlands so at that time almost any other country seemed to be so much bigger. But a country like Russia with its millions of inhabitants is something else altogether, I tend to think.
